Nepal’s climate varies with its topography and altitude. It ranges from the tropical to the arctic. Nepal’s climate is influenced by maritime and continental factors, and has four distinct seasons. Spring (between March – May), Summer (between June – August), Autumn (between September – November), Winter (between December – February).
Visiting Nepal in December – February (Winter). Winter is mostly clear and stable. It starts from late December through to February. The weather is pleasant and at the day time it’s cool but temperatures drop significantly at night time. Usually sky is clear with occasional snowfalls at higher elevations. This season is good for visiting Terai and trekking in lower elevations. You can visit national parks such as Chitwan national park and Bardia nation park and the capital Kathmandu will be a fun for any visitor throughout the seasons. You can celebrate Yomari Punhi, Losar, Poush Sukla Purnima, Maghe Sankranti, Maaha Shivaratri etc festivals during this season.
Visiting Nepal in March – May(Spring). March indicate the beginning of spring; the weather is mildly warm in low lands and moderate in higher altitude. Days are longer during March and April. This is perfect and popular time to travel Nepal. Days are longer so March and April is prefect time for trekking. It is also the time for flowers to blossom. Visiting Nepal in June – August(Summer). This is also the monsoon season in Nepal. The monsoon season occurs from June through to August. The weather is hot and wet. Days are warm, wet and with high humidity. During that time, it rains almost everyday with occasional thunderstorms in the evening. It not good to trek at this time of year monsoon season but city sightseeing is still possible also you can celebrate festivals like Naag Panchami, Janai Purnima & Raksha Bandhan, Rice Plantation Day,Gai Jatra,Krishna Janmashtami, during this season.
Visiting Nepal in September – November(Autumn). The weather is highly pleasant. This is the best time to visit Nepal as the skies are generally clear, fresh air and the views spectacular so are the mountain views. Between October and December is the best tourist season in Nepal. This is the peak season for trekking. October and November are two of the best months to visit as dry days make trekking easier and offer good visibility. This is also the season of festivities. You can celebrate the biggest Hindu festivals Dashain followed by Tihar during this season. Teej Festival , Rishi Panchami, Indra Jatra, Chaat etc are the few more festival you can celebrate in a joyful and exuberant way.
